IT'S ALWAYS SUNNY IN PHILADELPHIA
FX NETWORKS
For ten seasons we had the strange pleasure of making animated promos and graphics for this obnoxious yet iconic comedy. Our first package turned Paddy’s Pub into a man-eating monster that barfed up the gang and then promptly licked them back up again. Not weird enough for you? Well, FX’s brief for each subsequent season has been, “Make it weirder.” Thank you, FX.
SEASON 14
For Sunny’s 14th season, FX was willing and eager to go out on a limb. We developed the concept of devolving character loops, scrawling lines, and inappropriate emojis. There’s a bad flute rendition of the theme song.
SEASON 9
Our third season of IDs and promo elements for It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia. As the flagship comedy on the new FXX, the marketing team wanted to really hammer home the fact that the show was switching networks but sticking with its over-the-top formula. Our concept was to create a brain-melting collage of fake internet memes, high-brow culture bashing, fan-club-only Sunny references, FXX logos and all around nonsense.
To achieve this we made a series of random one-second scenes that could be shuffled around to make custom IDs and toolkit elements as needed. It's a ridiculous homage to channel surfing, but you can't escape Sunny, or whatever.
SUNNY ON HULU
Most of Sunny now lives on Hulu, and FX wanted everyone to know. For this campaign we riffed on classic supermarket circulars, with shouty type, loud colors, and proudly chaotic imagery. And don't forget the slightly unsettling mascot, our own Sun Man™. The hero spot is pure, high-voltage Sunny, supported by a flexible design and animation system built for evergreen use: mortises, title cards, roto’d moments, and a healthy supply of Easter eggs for the faithful.
SEASON 15
Everyone’s deep in herd mentality these days—tribed up, trend-chasing, and barely thinking. In the record-breaking 15th season of Sunny, the gang is as unhinged as ever, now navigating post-2020 chaos (ballots, Covid, QAnon, Giuliani) and an absurd romp through Ireland (bartending monkeys, haunted castles, corpses, and sheep—so many sheep). We had a blast creating an over-the-top, Irish-infused “sheeple” graphic identity to match.
SEASON 13
The Gang’s back for their 13th season, and we’re back with our 7th promo promo package for the show, this time channeling Sunny’s offbeat chaos with a punk-rock snarl. Iconic Philly imagery, oddball references, and grungy textures thrash together making you feel like you just got spit out of the center of a hardcore moshpit... and can’t wait to dive back in for more.
SEASON 12
For Season 12, we trapped the Sunny universe inside a pitch-black box and shook it to pieces. It's a chaotic pinball world that feels equal parts unhinged, claustrophobic, and unmistakably Sunny.
SEASON 10
FX challenged us to out-crazy our Season 9 package, so we pitched everything from a minimalist zen meditation of Frank's head to 80s sci-fi. But what won out was a deranged, amateur-fan-art-inspired fever dream. We uncapped the markers and went to work. The result is a chaotic cel-animated love letter to a decade of bad behavior in one glorious, Sharpie-fumed sketch.
